Sewage backup cleanup deals with black water contamination – sewage that's backed up into a home or business through drains, toilets, or a main sewer line. This is treated differently than standard water damage because sewage carries bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens that pose real health risks if not handled properly.
We respond to this in Chicago, IL after heavy rain overwhelms municipal sewer systems, a main line clog forces sewage backward into a home, or a septic system fails. This is one of the more urgent calls we get, since sewage contamination spreads health risk the longer it sits and the further it's tracked through a property.
We treat every sewage backup as contaminated water from the start – meaning affected porous material like carpet, padding, and often drywall near the source typically can't be saved and needs to be removed rather than dried in place. We extract the contaminated water, remove unsalvageable material, and apply antimicrobial treatment throughout the affected area before bringing in drying equipment. Anyone in the property should avoid contact with the affected area until we've assessed the situation, since this isn't a job for DIY cleanup.
Cost depends on how far the contamination spread, how much material needs removal, and the size of the affected area.
If you have a sewage backup in your Chicago, IL property, call (507) 853-2142 immediately – this isn't something to wait on.
